The jodhpur closes with a single strap that circles the ankle and buckles at the outside. It holds the heel more firmly than a chelsea because the strap can be tightened, which makes it the boot to choose if your heel tends to slip.

Wearing them in, and keeping them

Break-in

Boots take longer than shoes. Expect 3–5 wears before the shaft and the ankle collar soften.

Polishing

Cream polish every 8–10 wears; a light conditioning wax every third application.

Shoe trees

Insert cedar trees while the shoes are still warm, within ten minutes of taking them off.

After rain

If they get wet, wipe them down, stuff loosely with paper for the first hour, then tree them and dry away from any heat source for 24 hours.
